Late at night on Tuesday January 5, a woman was struck by a vehicle while walking across the crosswalk on Wishart Road and Salton Drive in Colwood. [RCMP File No. 2021-295]
The 11:15 pm incident saw the motorist driving away quickly up Salton Drive toward Stornoway Road, say West Shore RCMP.
Roads were possibly wet due to recent rainfall.
The woman suffered minor injuries and was helped by a bystander, says Cst Nancy Saggar, Media Relations Officer, West Shore RCMP.
Dallas Chislett posted on Facebook on January 9 in response to Island Social Trends’ posting of this article: “Thank you to everyone who has shared this post, and to the gentleman who lived nearby and stayed with my daughter until we arrived and were able to take her to the hospital to be checked out!”
“There is an overhead streetlight at the crosswalk on Wishart Road at Salton Drive,” says City of Colwood Communications Manager Sandra Russell. “The larger crossing two blocks down at Wishart and Cairndale Road has pedestrian-activated flashing amber lights,” says Russell.
The suspect vehicle is described by Cst Saggar as a small 4-door car, possibly blue in colour. Licence plate unknown.
“If you were the driver of this vehicle please do the right thing. Call us and identify yourself to police. We need to talk to you,” said Cst Saggar in a news release today.
Anyone with information on the suspect vehicle should call West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264 or report anonymously through Crime Stoppers online or by calling 1-800-222-8477.
