Tuesday, January 2 ~ SOOKE.
by West Shore Voice News, with notes from Linda Gordon
There was no bagpipe entry this year at the District of Sooke New Year’s Levee in council chambers. This year there was a youth drum band. And local singer Janet McTavish delivered a tune.
And yes there was the Premier, this being John Horgan’s first event of the day in his Langford-Juan de Fuca riding, joined by Sooke Mayor Maja Tait. About 100 people attended the levee this year over the two hours. The refreshments are always a hit including scones with cream and good coffee.
Horgan was presented with a copy of the Sooke Art Council’s Art & Word anthology which was published in 2018.
The book is an anthology collaboration of 33 artists and authors exploring how art influences poetry and writing and how authors inspire art. It sells for $35 per copy. Proceeds of the book sales will be going towards a scholarship for a graduating Edward Milne Community School student.
