The west shore community is invited to celebrate the grand opening of the brand-new pickleball courts at West Shore Parks & Recreation on Friday June 13 at 10 am.
This addition to the local recreation scene features six state-of-the-art courts designed to serve both casual players and competitive enthusiasts. Pickleball beginners and seasoned players are welcome at the new WSPR courts.
The new pickleball courts were developed in response to strong community demand for more access to the popular pickleball pasttime which is one of the fastest-growing sports in Canada
“This new pickleball courts offer a fun and inclusive sport that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, fostering connections and contributing to the overall health and well-being of our community.”, says Kimberley Guiry, Chair, West Shore Parks & Recreation Society Board.
Westshore Parks and Recreation is located at 1767 Island Highway (Highway 14) in Colwood. It is owned by five west shore municipalities (Langford, Colwood, View Royal, Highlands and Metchosin).
Pickleball court specs:
The new pickleball courts feature lower fences for better spectator views, space to expand the social picnic area and areas for both reserved and drop-in play.
Court Booking Information:
- Courts 1–4 are available for online reservation at a rate of $16 per 2-hour session.
- Courts 5 & 6 are designated as drop-in only, available on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Reservations can be made online same day or up to one week in advance through the WSPR website .
Grand opening includes exhibition matches:
The grand opening celebration will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony, light refreshments, and exhibition matches featuring local pickleball talent.
Municipal mayors, counsellors, staff, West Shore Parks & Recreation Society board members and recreation staff will be on hand to welcome guests and share more about the new facility.
“West Shore Parks and Recreation is constantly evolving to meet the needs of our growing communities and provide accessible recreation for everyone,” states the recreation facility in a new release.
Upcoming tournament:
On July 5, Westshore Parks & Recreation will be hosting its first annual “Paddle Royale” Pickleball
Tournament. This fun focused event will look to bring together beginner to intermediate recreational pickleballenthusiasts for a day of spirited matches and community fun. Held at the WSPR’s new Outdoor Pickleball Courts, this doubles tournament features men’s and women’s divisions for the 2.0, 3.0, & 4.0 levels.
Participants enjoy an organized schedule, professional-grade courts, and a lively atmosphere that celebrates both athleticism and camaraderie. With prizes, refreshments, and enthusiastic spectators, the WSPR PaddlRoyale is a highlight of the local recreational calendar in the Westshore community.
