UPDATE DECEMBER 22, 2023. Stuff the Trolley totals have been reported by the City of Langford as $2,900 cash, $400 gift cards, 1,000+ food items, 80 toys & non-food items for distribution to the Goldstream Food Bank and Ruth King Elementary School.
The larger of Langford’s trolleys has been out and about for a food bank donation drive this holiday season.
Last night it was in the parking lot at Westshore Town Centre amid the hubbub of holiday shopping, attended for the city by part-time city worker Connor Hogan and the adjoining booth with coffee and hot chocolate was manned by Royal Bay grad Jonas Burger.
Today it will be in the parking lot at Belmont Secondary School, 3041 Langford Lake Road, for one more round of collecting donations for the food bank, from 2 to 6 pm.
Christmas hampers have already been distributed for this holiday season but the need at food banks continues year-round in this strained economy.
Last night people arriving at the trolley were mostly donating cash, though there were some non-perishable food items and toys inside the trolley. Donations were made quickly as people seemed on their way to do other errands.
The trolley was available during the launch of Winter Fest on December 2 at Veterans Memorial Park, as well as at Bear Mountain (not the trolley itself to spare the long hike up) on December 9.
Donated items and cash will be given by city organizers to the Goldstream Food Bank.
