As COVID-19 hit mid-March and venues began to shut down, the 2020 ARTiFACTS show was one of the first local art exhibits in Sooke to make the shift to a virtual presentation space.
The annual exhibit and sale which features the works of members of the Sooke Arts Council went live in early April on the organization’s website at www.sookearts.com .
This year nine artists are presenting their works for sale: Linda Anderson, Elizabeth Ashworth, Tatjana Darling, Linda Gordon, Deborah Van Hattem-Koff, Chelsea Kirkpatrick, Sheilagh Knox, Rob Owen, Lynda Slater.
Works presented on the website include paintings (both watercolour and acrylic), photos, and silk scarves and collages.
Normally the show participants must make a commitment to be in attendance at the gallery (upstairs at the Sooke Region Museum) for a certain number of hours each week, to discuss the art with visitors and handle any on-site sales. But due to COVID-19 and the requirement for physical distancing, that level of participation became unavailable.
This year the sales of ARTiFACTS pieces are being done online, through each artist’s online presence.
“Thank you to all that signed up for the show!,” says Linda Gordon. “We will do our best to provide equally great, new art show opportunities later this year!”
“Stay home, stay safe, take care of yourself, and fill your free time with creating your amazing art! See you on the other side,” Linda says.
