It’s state of the art technology –– a way to ‘see beneath the surface’ of your eye. It’s for diagnosing potentially serious conditions that can affect eyesight and overall well-being.

Dr Louise Morin at the Sooke Optometry clinic is excited to be using this technology in her optometry practice.

The 3-D Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is similar to an ultrasound. But it uses light instead of sound to illustrate the different layers that make up the back of your eye.

Various conditions can be checked for with the OCT scan including age-related macular degeneration, diabetes, glaucoma, macular holes, and vitreous detachments.

The process of an OCT eye scan is simple and painless. Results can often be discussed during the same appointment.

The technology was developed by TopCon, world leaders in research and development and manufacturing of optical and electronic equipment for medical and ophthalmic applications.

Dr Morin and her husband Dr Brian Joslin who is the optometrist lead at the Langford Optometry clinic, have operated their two clinics on the west shore for over 29 years. Along the way they have built a solid clientele through their attention to patient needs and staying on top of advancements in optometry.
