A call for names for two schools soon under construction in West Langford — to open September 2022 — has been put out by Sooke School District 62 (SD62). The deadline is November 1 for ideas to roll in.
As of October 27, there were 568 suggested names for the elementary school and 359 for the middle school that will both be located on Constellation Avenue in one of the newer sections of Westhills.
Here are the two portals for contributing your ideas:
- Elementary School: https://my.thoughtexchange.com/#900989084
- Middle School: https://my.thoughtexchange.com/#372840639
SD62 board policy is to name the schools with reference to geographical location or a person’s name with historical context, with Indigenous consideration as well.
Participants can revisit the online portals to support other names
they like.
SD62 media rep Stephanie Sherlock says input is important
“for understanding the most important areas to focus on for naming our new schools”.
