The weather was super hot and sunny, the crowd was steady, and the activity was family-friendly at Langford’s fourth annual Canada Day event.
The five-hour mid-day event at Starlight Stadium drew in the general population of Langford for a simple good time.
There were food concessions, activities for kids, games on the field, live music, and information booths.

People wore their hats and sunscreen on a day that reached over 28°C. Many people wore Canada-flag red and white to help celebrate the day — a subtle nod to the bigger economic and sovereignty issues that this country is facing.
Activities were out on the open field and also under cover for some shade, such as the video game arcade.

The City of Langford had an information booth. Several City Councillors showed up for a bit including Mary Wagner and Keith Yacucha.

There was also a booth by Royal Roads University which is now reaching out further into the community with their new upcoming Langford campus which is set to open this fall.

The entry to Tuesday’s event had two tracks… one to have bags checked and the other called ‘Express’ entry. That was a modest increase in security in the wake of the province now reviewing recommendations for more security at community events. A passive security measure was to ensure that all activities were within the stadium/concession area perimeter.
The City of Langford booth promoted ExploreLangford.ca with an emphasis on tourism and accommodation.

A day to relax:
Langford residents also enjoyed activities at parks around the city or stayed home to work on the yard, walk in city parks, or just relax. People also travelled to go camping or hiking or take in some other sights on Vancouver Island.
