The City of Langford Budget for 2025 and their five-year financial plan for 2025-2029 is already under discussion.
Details began to roll out for council review during a Committee of the Whole Meeting tonight. It was their first look at the budget strategy.
More detailed numbers can be made available once the latest CPI/inflation rate is known and when the latest population numbers are available.
CPI impacts the cost of staffing and other aspects of operations that are tied to inflation. Population numbers impact things like the cop-to-pop ratio and cost of policing (currently each RCMP officer costs about $220,000 and more officers are needed as the population increases).
The start-of-budget introduction was delivered by Director of Finance Michael Dillabaugh with a 90 minute presentation.
Departments heads for Finance (by Dillabaugh), Fire (by Fire Chief Chris Aubrey) and Bylaw (by Bylaw head Lorne Fletcher as well as Marie Watmough) also made presentations.
Council had some preliminary questions about capital spending, reserves, and taxation levels as well as more specific questions about the presentations about Finance (which includes IT and GIS), Fire and Bylaw.
More presentations and details to come at the council level next Monday night, January 27.
Meanwhile, a public survey on Budget 2025 will launch tomorrow and be available online to February 9. This is the city’s first-ever budget survey, says Langford Mayor Scott Goodmanson.
Results of the survey will be available to council at their February 20, 2025 meeting.
