When someone scores big on the lotto draw, it’s not just the players who walk away with a cut of the prize.
Sanjeev Aggerwal has been the owner of the family-run Kamloops business McGoo’s Smokes N Stuff for over a decade. On Wednesday July 28, he was presented with a cheque for $35,000, the second-largest seller’s prize ever, according to the British Columbia Lottery Association (BCLC).
The seller’s prize program is designed to engage retailers in the excitement of lottery winners, says BCLC. The program awards retailers who sell a winning ticket with a prize of over $10,000 with a percentage of the prize paid.
Aggerwal’s cheque comes after another Kamloops man — retired truck driver Gary Hill — purchased a massive winning ticket of $35 million at McGoo’s Smokes N Stuff.
“I found out I sold the winning lottery ticket and I had goosebumps then and now even,” Aggerwal recalled.
Aggerwal says he plans to distribute the prize to his family members and employees.
“We all won. If I win, my employees win… we are like a family,” said Aggerwal.
