The trend of shifting social media accounts from X over to Bluesky has now been undertaken by Island Health.
“Island Health will be posting less on this platform,” they posted on X today.

Instead they will focus on “other digital spaces where we will continue to provide the best health & care info for everyone across our region”.
It’s not a wholesale shift away from X. Island Health will still share any urgent information on X given the wide reach that the X platform still offers.
The regular channels for Island Health social media posts will now be: Facebook, Instagram and Bluesky.
Statement from Island Health:
“Island Health is seeing an overall change in how people consume and engage with public health information on all social media platforms, especially X,” as stated by Island Health in statement to Island Social Trends.
“That’s why we are looking at additional ways to meaningfully engage our audiences, which includes expanding to new platforms, like Bluesky. Making fewer posts on X is less about volume, and more about being selective with the type of content that we will be putting on that channel. We will continue to prioritize operational updates,” says Island Health.
Stepping away from X:
This is a continuing trend of shifting away from X due to a regular stream of toxic content and a predominant use of the platform by its owner Elon Musk for his own political agenda as a right-hand man to US President Donald Trump.
Musk bought Twitter in 2022 for $44 billion and changed the platform’s name to X. At the time he called the platform the word’s town square, but the X platform seems to be losing of that elevated status.
The paid blue checkmark feature on X ($10/month) still remains, with popular features like the Edit function.
