Today as the G7 Summit gets rolling, Governor General Mary Simon will welcome leaders from the international community to the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Alberta.
The Governor General will greet French President Emmanuel Macron upon his arrival for the G7 Summit.
She will then also greet US President Donald Trump upon his arrival in Canada for the G7 Summit.
Carney & Trump:
Carney will have a bilateral meeting with Trump first thing on Monday ahead of the main G7 session.
On Monday:
On Monday June 16, Governor General Mary Simon will host a dinner for leaders participating in the G7 Summit outreach session.
That session is for national leaders and representatives from international organizations to broaden the scope of discussions and build consensus on pressing global issues.
Secure location:
The G7 is being held at the Kananaskis Mountain Lodge — southwest of Calgary, in the Rocky Mountains far from big cities.
This is part of the security consideration for world leaders.
The International Media Centre has been set up in the small tourism town of Banff, about one hour away.
