Development of an urban forest strategy is underway in the Town of View Royal.
The municipality is seeking community feedback on the draft.
Public engagement during the first phase of engagement helped shape the current draft, as stated by the Town of View Royal this week.
“Now we want to know. Did we get it right?”, the municipality says in their June 13 news release.
Among other findings to date, 85% of the residents are concerned about tree loss and 80% want canopy cover to increase.

Presently 59% of urban canopy is on private land. Tree canopy has many benefits including heat moderate in summer, shade for people and animals and other plants, being a continuum in local ecosystems, and visual appeal.
On boulevards there are about 1,200 trees. Of those, 33% are maple and 25% are red maple.
