We usually hear about earthquakes as occuring near or west of Vancouver Island.
Meanwhile, at 2:07 pm PT today there was a 3.1 Magnitude quake 7 km northwest of Oliver in the BC Interior region.
It was lightly felt in areas south of Kelowna, at Oliver, Okanagan Falls, Penticton and Kaleden.
There are no reports of damage says Natural Resources Canada.
Reminder to be prepared:
But it’s yet another reminder to be prepared. The ‘big one’ will happen (not a matter of if, but when).
Areas of Vancouver Island and the BC lower mainland are particularly vulnerable for larger quakes as well as tsunamis.
Rainfall storm preparedness – December 4:
It just so happens at that 2:07 pm there was a release from the Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness, for people in BC “to prepare for a storm”.
The impact is expected today and will ease tomorrow, including rainfall throughout Vancouver Island and many areas of the BC lower mainland including Metro Vancouver, Fraser Valley, and Whistler.
People are advised to prepare for local flooding in low-lying areas. Steer clear of river shorelines and don’t drive through flood water.
