The HSBC Canada Women’s Sevens is back in Langford this weekend.
Games at Starlight Stadium will happen April 30 and May 1.
Tickets can be purchased online at canadasevens.com/womens including single-day tickets (general admission $44.50 on each day).
Not on Mother’s Day:
Unlike in several previous years when the two-day Canada Women’s Sevens was held on Mother’s Day weekend, this year the tournament is not coinciding with a day usually spent with families in a range of activities.
A full two days:
Day 1 starts at 9:30 am. The first match is USA v Fiji, then England vs New Zealand, France vs Brazil, Ireland vs Japan, and then Canada vs Span at 10:58 am. Matches continue through the last one (Australia vs Canada) at 6:03 pm on Saturday.
Day 2 starts at 10 am, with the last match around 5 pm.
Canada Women’s Sevens schedules are posted online.
Interrupted in 2020 & 2021 by COVID:
For spring and summer at least, COVID-related public health restrictions have been fully lifted for sporting events in BC.
In 2020 the Canada Women’s Sevens were cancelled due to the pandemic.
The last big Canada Women’s Sevens was in 2019 at (then) Westhills Stadium (renamed Starlight Stadium in 2021). That year the economic spin-offs to Langford and the local economy for the Women’s Sevens tournament in 2019 were estimated at $3.7 million, according to Mayor Stew Young and Rubgy Canada Chair Tim Powers.
