This is July 1. A day to remember how remarkable it is that we live in a country where freedom is still an expectation and a right.
People will be out at events in the community today, or outdoors for recreation, or just relaxing at home.
Canada Day Events are posted in the Island Social Trends Community Calendar including for events in Langford and Sooke.
It’s important not to confuse any government of the day with celebrating this country. There certainly are a range of problems in society and the economy, but we can wake each morning knowing that we can live the day as we choose.

- “Our country is shaped by many different points of view. I encourage Canadians to embrace and celebrate all our voices and all our stories. Lead with empathy, curiosity and dialogue,” says Governor General Mary Simon.
