Curbside recycling service continues in the Greater Victoria area during COVID-19, on its regular schedule. But with some cautionary notes.

“Help keep our collection crews, sorting staff, residents and communities safe,” says the Capital Regional District (CRD).

Products like tissues, disinfecting wipes, face masks and rubber gloves are not part of the provincial recycling program and should not be put into blue bins or bags.

Used masks should not be dropped anywhere, but disposed of properly in garbage disposal.

Those sorts of viral-protection items should be put into the garbage in a sealed (tied-shut) bag and put in your garbage bin.

Gloves and masks should certainly not be left in public spaces as litter.

Residents can also help further by wiping down collection containers after each pick up to keep them clean.

Cleaning surfaces with soapy warm water is effective against the coronavirus.

To ensure that your recycling is collected, please only include accepted items in your curbside containers. Have your bluebox out to the curb by 7:30 am on pickup day.

If your recycling has not been collected by 6 pm on your collection day, leave your materials at the curb and call Emterra Environmental at 250.385.4399 by 11 am the following day.
