[Update on April 21, 2022: Premier John Horgan today expressed his anger about the blockade, saying that’s not the way to effect change in a civil society. He is astonished that “a small group of people can be so self-absorbed that they feel it’s okay to interfere” with others in society.]
There is a blockade on Hwy 1 in the northbound lane just north of West Shore Pkwy (red dot on map). The blockade has to do with a protest about old growth forest logging in BC.
As of 4 pm today, the northbound traffic is slow. As of 4:30 pm the northbound lane is still void of traffic flow, though it appears from the DriveBC webcam that the trucks have moved from their earlier spot.
The BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure is using one southbound lane to divert traffic around and back into northbound lanes til further notice.
If you live in the west shore, City of Langford engineering recommends exiting the TCH at Helmcken overpass or use the Colwood exit.
More details to come.
