“This is our first. If it’s a success we’ll use it to raise funds for more charities,” says Mill Bay Community League Society president Shane Ryan. Future Bingo nights might be monthly or quarterly, says Ryan.
A previous donation:
Mill Bay Community League today donated $2,500 to the CMS Food Bank in lieu of hosting its annual community Christmas party.
“On behalf of the CMS Food Bank, we are very grateful to receive this donation from the Mill Bay Community League” said Michael King St.Clair, past president and current board member of the food bank.
“Our need is up for a variety of reasons that are familiar to a number of people: rising grocery prices, supply issues, stubborn inflation, a lack of full-time employment options for working families, rising insurance prices, they all take their toll on our clients, says King St Clair.
“We would like to take this time to recognize and thank all CMS volunteers currently on the front lines working to meet the basic needs of our neighbours, friends and relatives in their time of need,” said Shane Ryan, President of the Mill Bay Community League.
CMS population:
The population of the region is now about 20,000 people given the province’s recent population increase of the past few years.
The 2016 census shows this population count: Malahat Mill Bay 4,733, Cobble Hill 5,019, and Shawnigan Lake 8,558.
