Thanksgiving weekend is traditionally the busiest weekend for BC Ferries as people go back and forth between the island and the mainland to visit with families and friends.
For on-water travel with BC Ferries this weekend, the corporation’s travel tips are:
- Book in advance
- Wear your face covering
- Try early and late sailings for shorter wait times.
- Spread out in additional space being made available.
- Enjoy the amenities. Grab and go limited hot food items are available.
- Foot passengers to arrive early and be prepared for the weather.
- Check schedules ahead of time. Historically, the Sunday, Thanksgiving Monday and following Tuesday morning are popular times for people departing from Vancouver Island.
- Passengers on enclosed vehicle decks are to leave their vehicles during the sailing (to comply with Transport Canada’s regulation).
COVID-19 conditions:
Transport Canada COVID-19 screening is in effect. Arrive at least one hour before your sailing in case of longer check-ins. Face coverings mandatory on board and at terminals, for the safety of passengers and crew. Everyone is expected to do physical distancing.
Passengers can remain in vehicles on upper (open) vehicle decks.
There is enhanced cleaning and some physical barriers, says BC Ferries. Tap & Pay is encouraged and available on board and at terminals for contactless payment.
