After three days without a media briefing about COVID-19, today the newest numbers were announced by Provincial Health Officer Dr Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix.

Until now, only one day has gone between data announcements about the profile of COVID-19 in British Columbia.

The number of COVID-19 cases in BC as of today June 8 is 2,659 (29 of those are new, including one epidemiologically linked case).

No new deaths in the last three days from COVID-19. The total of COVID-19 deaths in BC is 167 (data adjusted).

There are now 89 cases among children (34 cases in children up to age 10) and teens (55 cases in youth ages 10 to 19).

There are still 16 people in hospital today with COVID-19, four of those in intensive are. The remaining of the 183 active cases are recovering at home. To date, 2,309 people have been test positive for COVID-19.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 907 cases in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 1,362 in Fraser Health, 130 in the Island Health region, 195 in the Interior Health and 65 in the Northern Health. The number of cases in the Vancouver Coastal Health region has been adjusted to reflect a reporting error.

“There have been no new health-care facility outbreaks and the outbreak at the New Vista Society has now been declared over. In total, four long-term care or assisted-living facilities continue to have active outbreaks,” said Dr Henry today.

There have been no new community outbreaks and the outbreaks at Fraser Valley Specialty Poultry and Superior Poultry have also been declared over. Public health teams are providing support for the six ongoing community outbreaks.

For all of Canada at June 8, there are 95,057 cases (722 new), and 7,773 deaths (70 new).

Globally at June 8 there are 6,931,000 cases (131,296 new in last 24 hours) and 400,857 deaths (3,469 new in last 24 hours).
