On this 13th of November, 47 BC NDP MLAs will be sworn-in at the BC Legislature.
They will form the slimmest of majorities in the 43rd BC Parliament.
The ceremony will be held in the Legislative Chamber at 10:30 am. The event will be livestreamed. A media availability will be held at 1 pm.
Premier Eby’s new BC NDP cabinet will be sworn in on November 18. It’s yet to be seen whether Eby will trim down the size of his cabinet for the start of this session, compared to the 2022-2024 cabinet. [See: Cabinet Possibilities – Editorial, Oct 28, 2024)
The day before:
Opposition MLAs (Conservatives and Greens) were sworn in yesterday.
Also yesterday, the news of the passing of former BC Premier John Horgan was a sad overlay on the transition of power at the legislature yesterday, which somehow makes the swearing-in of the NDP MLAs in a third-term BC NDP government all the more poignant today.
Horgan had made possible the first BC NDP majority by cobbling together with the Greens in 2017, then also brought in a full majority win in 2020.
South Vancouver Island MLAs:
On South Vancouver Island there are seven NDP MLAs and one BC Green MLAs:
- Esquimalt-Colwood (BC NDP) – Darlene Rotchford
- Juan de Fuca-Malahat (BC NDP) – Dana Lajeunesse
- Langford-Highlands (BC NDP) – Ravi Parmar
- Oak Bay-Gordon Head (BC NDP) – Diana Gibson
- Saanich North and the Island (BC Green) – Rob Botterell
- Saanich South (BC NDP) – Lana Popham
- Victoria-Beacon Hill (BC NDP) – Grace Lore
- Victoria-Swan Lake (BC NDP) – Nina Krieger
