The 850th little free library (LFL) in the Capital Regional District (CRD) was installed by Saanich South MLA Lana Popham who is Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport together with her partner Dr Rob Sealey.
Installed in a cul-de-sac on Piedmont Gardens in the Cordova Bay area of Saanich, the LFL was built by local folk artist Michael Sheane.
This LFL is made from gathered and recycled material including an old glass-paned window, a decommissioned tailpipe, and some scrap metal from Lana and Rob’s home. The crow, the nest and the eggs were carved by Sheane.
LFL’s are little book boxes that operate on the principle of ‘leave a book – take a book.’ They come in all shapes and sizes and can be found throughout the region.
Organized by Pocket Places:
The August 24 event was organized by Pocket Places project lead Dr Teale Phelps Bondaroff who is also a municipal councillor with the District of Saanich.
Since 2017, the Greater Victoria Placemaking Network (GVPN) has been running the Pocket Places Project which maps, promotes, stocks, and helps build Little Free Libraries across the CRD.
