The annual Xmas tree fundraiser by the Colwood Campus of SD62’s Westshore Centre for Learning & Training reached their financial goals in this 2018 holiday season, as well as providing a learning opportunity for students.
The sale ran outdoors daily in afternoons and evenings from December 1 to 16 through some cold and rainy weather.
“We were very pleased to reach our fundraising goal this year,” says organizer Debbie Lodewijk. This year 723 trees were sold — that’s up from 624 last year. The selection included fir, spruce and pine as supplied by Saanichton Tree Farm.
“The students and teachers did an excellent job as volunteers and we loved hearing from our customers how much they enjoyed visiting our festive tree lot,” said Lodewijk this week.
Funds are applied to grad costs for students-in-need in June, as well as for ongoing summer costs of the sustainability garden at the 2139 Sooke Road campus.
Westshore Learning & Training is a division of Sooke School District 62 (SD62) that offers distance learning (online courses) but also at the Colwood Campus students find the benefits of various kinesthetic learning opportunities and creative ways to flourish in their high school years.
