A small gathering at the Town of View Royal council chambers on Wednesday evening, November 21, was an opportunity for local business people to chat with mayor and council on an informal basis.

Attending were Mayor David Screech, and councillors Damian Kowalewich and Gery Lemon. Damian was first on council last year after being elected in a byelection last year, and Gery Lemon is new to council. The other two councillors are long-time on council: Ron Mattson (first elected in 1990, now in his 7th term) and John Rogers (on council since 1996).

The event on Wednesday evening was coordinated and hosted by the Westshore Chamber of Commerce.

Poster boards were on display showing various aspects of the municipality, including population and types of employment of residents.

The View Royal population was 10,408 at the 2016 census, up from 9,381 in 2011. The age clusters are age 1 to 14 (530 / 15.4%), 15 to 64 years (6,960 / 66.9%) and 65+ (1,840 17.7%); over 85+ shows 190 residents (1.8%).

The municipality has a progressive range of options for secondary suites. As of the 2016 census, of the 4,155 households in View Royal (with 9,910 residents), 2,715 households had one or two residents (65.3%), with 1,440 having 3 or more persons (34.6%).

View Royal is divided into eight distinct precincts based on such factors as topography, major transportation corridors, natural environment and the age of housing stock: Atkins, Harbour, Thetis, Burnside, Helmcken, Wilfert, Craigflower, and Hospital.
