Hoping to stir up further momentum for people getting their first dose of COVID-19 vaccination, Island Health has opened a temporary clinic at the Woodgrove Centre shopping mall in Nanaimo.

It will be open seven days a week until further notice. Hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Saturdays: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Sundays: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A sign of the times… clothing purchases have been way down during the COVID pandemic, as people stayed home and worked from home. The location for this new temporary clinic is in the former Le Chateau location (mostly trim-line fashion for young people). However, that’s right new door to LaSenza (fashionable lingerie) which seems to have survived the economic impacts of the pandemic.

The free drop-in clinic is for adults and youth in need of first doses only. Anyone in need of a second dose of COVID-19 vaccine needs to book an appointment through the provincial Get Vaccinated system.

Second dose matters:

A second dose is considered completion of the vaccination process (i.e. part two of a two-part process). As of yesterday (June 21), about 75% of eligible Canadians (age 12+) had received their first dose and 20% second dose. Here on Vancouver Island, 75.8% of islanders age 12+ had received their first dose (or 77.3% for age 18+).

Of all islanders age 18+, now 725,092 people have received their first dose of COVID vaccine which is about 83.3% of the island’s full population of 870,297, and 137,758 people over age 18 years have received their second dose (about 15.8% of the full island population).

Other clinics & getting registered:

In addition to this temporary clinic, Island Health is continuing to provideĀ a limited number of first-dose walk-in appointments each day at existing mass immunization clinics (such a Beban Park in Nanaimo) and expanding the number of appointments available for booking.

To ensure your vaccination appointment, you can register and book an appointment through the provincial Get Vaccinated system.

As BC Health Minister Adrian Dix said today in his 3 pm COVID update with Dr Bonnie Henry: “It’s never too late to get your first dose of vaccine.”
