Some fitness programs could be coming to Metchosin.
West Shore Parks & Recreation is excited to explore the possibility of bringing select West Shore Parks & Recreation fitness programs to the newly renovated Old Metchosin School and gymnasium at 4495 Happy Valley Road.
- Functional Fitness – A well-rounded full body workout focusing on strength, agility, stability, and flexibility using a variety of equipment, including free weights, body weight, bands, and balls. Move through exercises involving multiple joints and muscle groups and movement planes to enhance full body function, strength, conditioning, and core.
- Essentrics – This is a dynamic and fluid combination of strengthening and stretching based on the science of eccentric movement. Challenge the muscles in a lengthened position resulting a long lean and toned shape. All levels and abilities welcome.

Survey to January 31:
The District of Metchosin invites residents to participate in a survey about fitness programs that could be offered.
The range of possible programs includes basic fitness, bootcamp or circuit fitness, dance fitness, yoga, older adult fitness, parent & tot fitness.
There is also a question about including a weight room at the Old Metchosin School and also First Aid/CPR classes.
The online survey will be open to Friday January 31, 2025.
Paying into West Shore Parks & Rec:
The District of Metchosin is one of the five municipal partners of the West Shore Parks and Recreation Society. At the December 2, 2024 District of Metchosin council meeting council wondered how much use of the main facilities at 1767 Island Highway (in Colwood) is being taken by Metchosin residents.
It makes good sense to bring some of the programming out to Metchosin (approx 20-minute drive, longer by bus).
Metchosin is a rural agricultural community in the west shore region of Greater Victoria. In 2025, Metchosin Mayor Marie-Térèse Little is vice-chair of the Capital Regional District for a second year.
