Spring is here, and finding a job for summer or beyond is part of the business community’s action.

For hiring within the Sooke area, a job fair was held this week by WorkLink BC.  The March 20 event from 9:30am to 12 noon was a casual walk-about in the lower lobby at the Prestige Oceanfront Resort was an employment exploratory opportunity for both employers and job seekers.

Part of the goal was also to help encourage employment within the Sooke local community.

There was an easy-going vibe to the event. About 110 people attended in a wide age range — from teens to older folks, viewing 22 employer displays from around Sooke.

Each booth seemed to draw interest. At least two resumes were submitted at each booth that morning.

Among the employers there to meet with prospective employees: Academy of Learning, AdrenaLine, Allied Universal Security, Alpine Group, BC Pension, BC Transit, Knappett Pacific Inc, P & R Truck Centre Ltd, Prestige Oceanfront Resort, Rhino Labour Temp Services, RLC Park Services, SD61 (Greater Victoria), Seaflora Skin Care, Sooke Family Resource Society, Sooke Options for Community Living Association, Village Food Markets, Wenstob Timber, West Coast Grill, and Wild Renfrew.

WorkLink provided a work area for people to write up resumes ‘in the moment’ as required.
