The Victoria Conference Centre Theatre was filled to capacity for Marina Sirtis today on this second day of the Capital City ComicCon.

Fans waited in multiple-hour long lines to ensure they would land a seat in the Theatre to catch their favourite stars. Even so, many had to be turned away at the door as the theatre quickly filled up for each of the big-name discussion panelists.

Actress Marina Sirtis, widely known for her role as Deanna Troi of Star Trek: The Next Generation (TNG), kept the whole room entertained as she cracked witty jokes while pacing the stage, looking great as ever.

“I didn’t wear these thigh-high boots to sit in a chair,” she said, referencing the chair placed soliloquy style with a small table alongside, on an otherwise empty stage. “Ladies, this is 64, don’t let anyone tell you how to be.”

The star of TNG TV and film journeys continued on to share some insider tidbits regarding Star Trek: The Next Generation, such as the original seven main cast members remaining best friends to this day. She largely attributes to the fact that there was no “hanky panky”, though she admits “LeVar [Burton, who played Lieutenant Geordi La Forge] tried”.

Sirtis also shared that she doesn’t like to watch her own scenes, as it was difficult to remain objective and watch the character developing the story, rather than watch herself acting. She was humble, hilarious, and just as excited to see her fans as they were to see her.

At the center of all the celeb-hype, the ComicCon stayed true to its main goal of providing a great experience for fans. Even Sirtis herself commented, upon being thanked for coming to Victoria for the Con: “I’m going to get Star Trek on you guys, it’s a symbiotic relationship. If you guys didn’t come, we wouldn’t come.” That was her way of saying that without the fans, there would be no Star Trek.

The intimacy of the Capital City Comic Con was commented upon by several attendees and cosplayers, too. Many had traveled quite a ways and had been to many other comic conventions. Each commented on how refreshing the vibe at Victoria’s Con was, with one person stating that you could really feel the “Island” touch, and that it didn’t feel as “commercial”.

Another noted the Con was very “grounded”, which that could certainly be felt while standing in the venue. Homemade costumes outnumbered professionally tailored ones, but they were just as impressive.

Day 2 of the Capital City Comic Con was jam-packed with events, celebrities, cosplayers, and attendees. Saturday proved to be a very busy day for the weekend-long convention, as expected, and Sunday of the three-day show has just as many exciting events scheduled including a costume contest.

Sunday’s single-day adult pass is $30, for children $10.
