Getting out and about for their official duties in a festive way is a new thing for the new members of District of Sooke Council.

Last week, new Councillors Jeff Bateman and Al Beddows joined Councillor Brenda Parkinson at the Sooke Festival of Trees Kickoff at SEAPARC Leisure Complex, even posing with Santa.

And this week, a contingent of four Sooke council members showed up at Premier John Horgan’s local constituency open house: Ebony Logins, Megan McMath, Brenda Parkinson, and Tony St Pierre.

But the serious side of the work doesn’t stop. A special meeting of Council has been called for Monday December 17 at 6 pm — first for an in-camera session and then open at 7pm, followed by Committee of the Whole.

The District of Sooke municipal hall will be closed Tuesday Dec 25 and Wednesday Dec 26 for those statutory holidays (Christmas and Boxing Day).

The Sooke Mayor’s New Year’s Levee will be held on Tuesday January 1 at 10 am in council chambers.
