Strong winds have been in play since Friday evening, causing significant outages in the South Vancouver Island Region.

As of 11 am Saturday March 14 there are still 29 outages seeing 9,871 BC Hydro customers on South Vancouver Island without power.

In the west shore area that includes about 69 customers in Langford and 201 in Metchosin.

In the Sooke area there are about 690 customers affected (most of those in the West Coast Road area west of Henlyn Drive). SEAPARC Leisure Complex was closed today March 14 due to the power outage; expected to reopen at 9 am on Sunday March 15.

BC Hydro says that crews are continuing work to restore power to affected customers and individual restoration updates will be posted as they are available.

On the Lower Mainland there are 19,483 customers without power in 76 outages.

North Vancouver Island has only one outage, with 367 customers affected.
