The Pacific FC professional soccer club (one of eight teams in the Canadian Premier League) is still holding onto hope that COVID-19 will be enough under control to have a 2020 season here on Vancouver Island.
There is a Pacific FC store on Fort Street in downtown Victoria and home games are played at Westhills Stadium where the seats in the stands are the proud purple and white PFC colours.
Here is today’s statement from Pacific FC organizers:
“We wanted to give you all an update on the latest from Pacific FC. We have made the decision to close the Pacific FC store and offices until further notice to allow our staff to work safely from home. You can still reach our staff by phone or email with any questions.
Like all businesses and organizations in Canada, we are closely monitoring the circumstance of COVID-19 and abiding by the recommendations from government. We are in constant communication with the CPL and are focused on putting the safety of our fans, staff and players first.
We will communicate to our loyal fans as soon as we have information about how our upcoming season may be impacted. Until then we remain proudly Pacific with our best thoughts on our community. Stay safe, and hopefully we will see you all at Westhills Stadium soon.”
The CPL season is presently still set to start April 11, with the first Season 2 Pacific FC home game set for Westhills Stadium on that date. Some adjustments in this year’s home game schedule presently have included no mid-week games, some Friday night games, but of course games still on weekends.
