A motor vehicle accident happened today December 30 around 2:45 pm on Sooke Road (Highway 14) near the Humpback/Woodruff turnoff in the 4-lane section of the highway. This was a single vehicle collision… the vehicle sheared off a power pole at the bottom. The sole occupant was assessed by paramedics and had minor injuries, says Langford Fire Rescue.

“The vehicle went off the road right and flipped onto its roof. Alcohol and drugs were ruled out. The cause was the driver losing control of steering,” said West Shore RCMP Media Relations Officer Cst Nancy Saggar today in a statement to Island Social Trends.

That’s part of a curvy part of the highway at the south end of Langford, approaching westward to the boundary line at Metchosin.

Overhead wires were impacted, so this caused delays until the area was considered safe, says City of Langford Engineering. Lights flickered in the area at the time of the incident but there were no power outages listed by BC Hydro for that time period.

As of 4:25 pm BC Hydro was on scene and had taken control of the area by securing the pole. Traffic moved through the area under the direction of traffic control personnel, but was not seriously impacted.

Road conditions were wet from rain for most of the day, and year-end nighttime darkness had already settled in by 4:30 pm.
