Today there was a bit of a break from rainy weather, enjoyed by folks at the 115th Cobble Hill Fair.
The annual Cobble Hill Fair is a community event for kids of all ages to showcase talent in food growing along with entertainment.
It’s an opportunity for folks in the south Cowichan region (east side of Vancouver Island, beyond the Malahat) to celebrate their rural heritage and character.
Hosting an information booth there today was BC United candidate Herb Haldane who is running to be the next MLA in the new Juan de Fuca-Malahat riding. The riding is geographical extensive, reaching from the east side of the Island over to include Sooke and east Sooke as well as Metchosin and west out beyond Otter Point to Port Renfrew.
Community events like fairs are a handy opportunity for candidates to be visible along the campaign trail.
Haldane has been hearing from people today about farming and agriculture, maintaining the well-being of the planet, and wanting higher-paying resource jobs to come back.
He also heard people talking about affordability. “Costs are rising and it’s harder than ever to make ends meet,” Haldane says.
In the Sooke area of the riding Haldane is well-known as a two-term District of Sooke municipal councillor (2008 to 2011, and 2011 to 2014) and local home-builder. If elected, he would likely bring a common sense business approach to politics.
