Daylight Saving Time is wrapping up for this year.

At 2 am on Sunday morning, November 2, turn your clocks back one hour.

That will end Daylight Saving Time for 2025 (after having been moved forward one hour on March 9 of this year).

Mostly automated:

Most digital timekeeping devices will turn back one hour on their own. You probably won’t have to worry about adjusting the clock on computers, your phones, or any other electronic or digital device.

Daylight Saving Time probably means having to change some clocks or digital timekeeping devices manually.

You may still have to adjust clocks manually on stoves and in older cars, as well as any old traditional clocks you have still ticking in your home.

Why we do it:

Daylight Saving Time allows for better recreational and economic use of the longer daylight available during summer so that darkness falls at a later clock time.

It’s also one way to save on a bit of electricity usage in the evenings.

Sleepiness:

Some people feel a physiological impact to clock-changes (spring forward in the spring, fall back in the fall).

The disruption to routine can seem disorienting.

Some studies have shown an increase in car accidents and just otherwise feeling off-kilter for a few days.

Permanent shift?

A few years ago in British Columbia there was talk of shifting to permanent Daylight Saving Time as a way to presumably avoid the impact on biological circadian rhythms.

If choosing one time over another, the natural thing to do would be to remain on Standard Time (as Mother Nature intended).

November benefits:

When the clock falls back one hour in early November each year that allows for an additional hour of sleep!

It also means that your body is back in rhythm with the original Standard Time… a healthier place to be in time and space.
