Community grant applications are now being accepted by the District of Sooke for 2025.
The program has evolved over the years to the point where it has a distinct process and defined goals. Final decisions are made by council.

In 2025, the program provides financial support to local non-profit organizations and community groups delivering programs, projects, and initiatives that “enrich the lives of Sooke residents and align with the District’s priorities”.
- Application Deadline: March 15, 2025
- Eligibility: Applicants must be registered non-profit organizations, societies, or community groups serving Sooke residents. Groups must be in good standing and agree to acknowledge the District as a funder in all promotional materials and at funded events.
- Maximum Grant Amount: Organizations can apply for up to $7,000 for a maximum of three consecutive years.
- Funding Focus: Projects and programs must fall within one or more of the following categories:
- Sports and Recreation: Supporting programs and activities that enhance physical health, well-being, and community engagement through sports and recreation.
- Fine Arts and Culture: Promoting artistic expression, cultural experiences, and community access to the arts.
- Heritage: Preserving and celebrating Sooke’s history, traditions, and heritage assets.
- Public Safety: Enhancing safety and security through programs or initiatives that benefit the community.
- Community Development: Encouraging initiatives that foster community connections, promote economic development, and support local businesses.
- Community Beautification: Improving the aesthetic appeal of public spaces and creating welcoming environments for residents and visitors.
- Environmental Sustainability: Supporting projects that promote environmental stewardship, conservation, and climate action.
Additional Considerations: Applicants are strongly encouraged to demonstrate efforts to secure other sources of funding to support their application.
If your application is to support an event taking place in a District park or on a road, or if you are requesting staff support in any capacity for your event, you must also submit an event form alongside your community grant application.
Program info and eligibility criteria, guidelines, and the application form are online.
“This grant program highlights the District’s commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen our community, foster inclusivity, and celebrate what makes Sooke unique,” says Mayor Maja Tait.
Applications can be submitted by email to finance@sooke.ca or in person at the District of Sooke Municipal Hall by the March 15 deadline. Please ensure all required documentation is included.
