Monday, December 24, 2018 ~ VANCOUVER ISLAND.
~ by West Shore Voice News
As of 10:39 pm this evening Monday December 24, there were 17,629 BC Hydro customers without electricity, almost all of them on Vancouver Island: North Island 6,479; South Island 11,145; Thompson/Shuswap <5.
Crews have been hard at work. This late evening outage count is down from 8:20 am this morning when 25,996 BC Hydro customers were without power.
Wind that came from several directions during the December 20 storm brought down a lot of trees and power poles, many that blocked traffic including repair vehicles. The lack of access for assessment and repair has slowed down the process of power restoration.
BC Hydro says that due to the extent of the damage in the hardest hit areas, it will take several more days to restore power for all customers on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.
