Thursday August 28. Family-Friendly Event – Open House at Langford Fire Hall #2, located at 3205 Happy Valley Road. 11 am to 1 pm. Hot dogs, refreshments, games, music, cake-cutting ceremony. To celebrate that Station 2 will now be staffed 24/7.
The City of Langford is excited to announce that Langford Fire Station 2, located at 3205 Happy Valley Road, is now fully staffed and will operate 24/7, enhancing emergency response times and community safety.
“As Langford grows, the need for essential services and community safety increases,” says Langford Mayor Scott Goodmanson.
“Fully staffing Station 2 ensures our emergency teams can respond quickly and effectively, providing residents with the peace of mind that help is on its way whenever needed,” said Goodmanson today.
Langford council included additional firefighter staffing in the municipality’s Budget 2025.
Serving south Langford:
Langford Fire Station 2 primarily serves the southern part of Langford and neighboring areas. Previously, it operated with a combination of paid-on-call firefighters and volunteers. However, due to the city’s growing population, expanding these services has become critically important.
“In an emergency, every second counts. A faster response can mean the difference between life and death or saving a home from a total loss. Having 24/7 coverage at Station 2 will reduce response times, helping to protect both residents and firefighters by lowering the risk of injury, death, and property damage,” says Langford Fire Cheif Chris Aubrey.
“This added coverage increases the city’s overall emergency response capacity. With more firefighters available at any given time, the entire community of Langford will benefit,” says Aubrey.
Five-Year Master Plan:
The Langford Fire Rescue’s Five-Year Master Plan (2017) included a staffing plan for 24/7 coverage at Fire Station 2 to meet the demands of the growing population.
This plan highlighted the need for more career firefighters and volunteers, spanning the two fire stations.
- In 2023, Langford Council made a strategic decision to hire more career firefighters due to a decline in volunteer numbers, which had made achieving full staffing challenging.
- Ensuring 24/7 staffing at Fire Station 2 is also a key priority as outlined in Council’s 2023-2027 Strategic Plan. This decision allowed for the hiring of nine firefighters each year from 2023 to 2025, resulting in Station 2 being fully staffed with career firefighters.
Event to celebrate full staffing:
To celebrate this significant achievement, Langford Fire Rescue and the City of Langford will host a free community event on Thursday, August 28th, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Langford Fire Station 2, located at 3205 Happy Valley Road.
