Today at the G7 Leaders’ Summit on Kananaskis, Alberta, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney received a decorative soccer ball from Mexican president Claudia Sheinbaum as a gift to earmark the upcoming 2026 World Cup.
World Cup 2026 will feature games in Canada, Mexico and the United States during June 11 to July 19, 2026.

Building on the longstanding relationship between Canada and Mexico, Carney and Sheinbaum discussed the close economic integration that has benefited workers and businesses in both nations.
The two leaders discussed shared G7 priorities, including economic and energy security as well as building reliable supply chains.
Carney and Sheinbaum agreed to deepen bilateral collaboration at the ministerial level, with a focus on trade, energy, agriculture, and security. They also emphasized the importance of safeguarding North American competitiveness and rules-based trade in the lead-up to the review of the trilateral CUSMA (USMCA, formerly NAFTA).
Prime Minister Carney and President Sheinbaum agreed to remain in close contact and looked forward to meeting again in Mexico in the coming months.
On the sidelines:
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi also today met with the President of Mexico on the sidelines of the G7 Summit. This was the first meeting between the two leaders. Modi congratulated President of Mexico on her historic victory (in October 2024).
