Police are investigating a two-vehicle head-on collision that occurred just after 1 pm today Sunday February 3.

The incident happened on Highway 1 (TCH) near the Leigh Road overpass in Langford.

This is the second such crash in the same stretch of highway in less than a month (another crash occurred on January 8).

As of 4 pm today, West Shore RCMP are still on scene and advise the public that Highway 1 just North of the Leigh Rd has been shut down in both directions. A detour through West Shore Parkway is available.

  • The TCH is closed southbound detouring at the West Shore Parkway. The TCH is closed northbound at Exit 16 the Leigh road overpass.
  • The TCH will remain closed for four to six hours due to a motor vehicle accident
  • Drivers are asked not to block the roundabout on West Shore Parkway at Amy road
  • The City of Langford has opened the Humpback road railway crossing for residents living in the Sooke Lake road, Amy Road Lakehurst areas only. Traffic control personnel are in place. Traffic is single lane alternating. Please use caution, says City of Langford Engineering. “This is NOT a detour for the TCH. It is for local residents only living in the area west of West Shore Parkway and north of the railway.”

This collision resulted in serious life-threatening injuries. A Traffic Reconstructionist along with the West Shore RCMP Traffic Unit and General Duty police officers are working to determine the cause of the collision.

The public is asked to be patient with emergency crews as they work at this location.
