Both drivers — each the sole occupant of their vehicles — were taken to hospital with serious injuries on January 8 following a head-on collision that occurred at 12:43 pm on Highway 1 (Trans Canada) near the Leigh Road interchange.
Now today, January 25, West Shore RCMP have advised that one of the individuals in the collision has passed away. The other driver is still recovering in hospital.
The family of the deceased has been notified. RCMP says they will not be releasing the name of the deceased individual. “This investigation is still on going, however speed and alcohol are not believed to be a factor in this collision at this time” says Cpl. Chris Dovell of the West Shore RCMP.
The two vehicles involved in the crash were a blue Honda Pilot and a silver Honda CRV.
Roads were wet from earlier rainfall at the time of the crash, says Langford Assistant Fire Chief Lance Caven.
Firefighters had to use the ‘jaws of life’ extraction equipment to remove one of the vehicle occupants. “This was done quickly by our Firefighters and both occupants were taken to hospital by BC Ambulance,” says Caven.
