Construction is coming along at Colwood Corners (1913 Sooke Road) in the commercial heart of Colwood. The next phase includes a traffic advisory for May through August 2021.
The impacted area is along Sooke Road (Highway 14) at Colwood Corners (1913 Sooke Road) and surrounding streets.
“We’re sorry your drive may take a bit longer as the pace of improvement speeds up in Colwood,” the City of Colwood stated in a release on April 30.
Contractors will be installing underground hydro and construction of frontage improvements — that’s what will be causing the disruption. The advisory is for the 12-hour time period between 7 am to 7 pm on the days indicated.
Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians may need to wait a few minutes when travelling in that vicinity over the coming months. Also constructing new sidewalks, cycling lanes, transit improvements, landscaping, lighting and seating. Single lane traffic will be maintained but work will impact travel times. Traffic personnel will be onsite to direct traffic. Obey traffic signs, use extra caution.
The city suggests that people may wish to travel outside of peak hours or choose an alternate route. “You may need to wait a few minutes when travelling on Sooke Road and surrounding streets near Colwood Corners over the coming months.”
Here is the anticipated schedule (as provided by City of Colwood Engineering):
- Colwood Crescent frontage improvements Apr 12 to May 19 (road closed between Sooke Road and Jerome Road – detour access via west Colwood Crescent).
- Belmont Road frontage improvements May 5 to 21 (single lane alternating traffic – access to 85 Belmont Road through Belmont Road only).
- Jerome Road frontage improvements May 14 to June 11 (road closed).
- Sooke Road hydro and streetlights June 1 to July 27 (lane closures will cause delays).
- Sooke Road frontage improvements June 28 to August 6 (lane closures will cause delays).

The commercial component so far includes Save On Foods, Coast Capital Savings, TD Bank, First Choice Haircutters, and London Drugs.
