Today Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke with the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum.
Carney expressed his gratitude for the Mexican firefighters who have traveled to Manitoba to assist Canadians at this critical time of wildfire management in that province.
The two leaders discussed how to strengthen the Canadian and Mexican economies and enhance the global competitiveness of both countries, as stated in a readout from Carney’s office.

In the footsteps of G7:
This collaboration builds on the “productive meeting” between Carney and Sheinbaum at the G7 Summit in Alberta last month.

During the G7 Mexico’s president gifted Canada’s prime minister with a decorative soccer ball as part of recognizing the shared economic boost that will happen for Canada and Mexico during and in followup to the FIFA World Cup 2026 games that will be held in the two countries (as well as in the United States).
Carney to visit Mexico:
President Sheinbaum said that Canada’s prime minister will be visiting Mexico at some point, without a date being announced.
