A flag-raising gathering of District of Metchosin council members and staff, fire chief, police, military, community membes and media happened on Friday outside municipal hall.

District of Metchosin Mayor Marie-Thérèse Little emphasized the importance of inclusion in the small community of about 5,000 people. Elected in 2022, Little takes pride in having initiated the event that has now run three years in a row.
Councillors who attended the short event were Sharie Epp, Jay Shukin and Steve Gray.

The mayor’s message was echoed by CFB Commander Esquimalt Base Logistics Officer Matthew Hardy, West Shore RCMP Cpl Cole Brewer, and others who spoke briefly.
Coffee and cake were served in council chambers.
Metchosin is largely a rural community where agriculture and outdoor activities are the economic mainstay. A growing arts presence is felt in the community as well.
Metchosin is bordered by Langford and Colwood, two larger cities that supplement the economic, service and recreational needs of the small rural municipality.
