Thursday, September 27 ~ SOOKE.
Four years ago in 2014 Herb Haldane was running for Mayor, on the heels of having served two terms (2008-2011 & 2011-2014) on District of Sooke council. Now having sat it out for four years, he’s back running again for a seat on council.
He’s been hard at work running his housing construction business but not in any way holding back on his political involvement within the Sooke community. He has been active at the Sooke Legion and the Sooke Community Association, clocking over 10 years now of committee meetings with various organizations.
“I would like to see the District of Sooke become a service-based organization that cares about its citizens and works diligently to solve the concerns of its people,” says Herb Haldane in this campaign. As for improvements: “In the short term I would like the District to be a friendlier place to do business. Long term I want us to complete the Throup Road connector to Phillips Road.”
On the matter of housing affordability, Haldane knows the issues well. He says that the zoning bylaw needs to be changed to have a small/mini house zone and that more manufactured home parks are a necessary reality.
As for economic growth: “Sooke is ripe for industrial tech park zoning and then we can embrace what would be the fastest growing industry in the Victoria area,” says Haldane.
