Monday, October 15 ~ SOOKE. Back in 2005-2008 Rick Armour served on District of Sooke council. And he’s back, as a candidate in the 2018 race for a seat on council.

A sales rep with Lordco Auto Parts Ltd, Armour, 56, has lived in Sooke for 24 years. While on Council Rick chaired the 2010 Olympic/Paralympic Games Live Sites committee that also produced the Sooke Marine Boardwalk. Amour also co-chaired the Economic Development Committee of that era, which brought the Prestige Hotel to town.

Rick’s volunteer work in the community includes Cops for Cancer/Tour de Rock Chair, Safe Halloween Committee Chair, and Vice President of the Sooke Canada Day celebrations. While on Council he also was a SEAPARC Commissioner and responsible for the Youth Drop In Centre at the community hall.

Rick also served with the Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue for 7 years as a Coxswain and Station Leader. “I believe in honesty, integrity and transparency and would like to see the vision of the Official Community Plan better utilized,” says Armour. He says that would include better access for pedestrians and cyclists throughout our community as well as revitalizing the waterfront and improving access there.

At the October 11 All Candidates Forum that evening in Sooke at the Prestige hotel, Armour reminded the full-house audience that “every vote counts”. He wrapped up by saying that ‘smart growth’ will keep wild spaces intact. “We are neighbours with our greenspace, animals and trees.”
