A 3.5-km stretch of Highway 1 in the Malahat stretch near Goldstream will be repaved starting October 4 through to month-end.
That’s from south of the Aspen Road intersection to just south of the recently completed Tunnel Hill washout repair site.
Work will be done in the evenings and overnight, during off-peak travel times only:
- 8 pm on Sundays to 5 am on Thursdays.
- Single-lane alternating traffic control from 10 pm to 5 am.
Passage will be maintained through the area with anticipated delays as long as 20 minutes, says the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.
The Malahat stretch of Highway 1 is a vital corridor for vehicle traffic from the Greater Victoria area (leaving Langford at the West Shore Parkway) to points up-island at Mill Bay and beyond up to Duncan and Nanaimo, and further to central Vancouver Island (Courtenay-Comox and Campbell River).
Plan ahead:
During the nightly construction hours, drivers should anticipate delays through the work area and are encouraged to travel outside of the construction hours for less disruption.
People are reminder to obey all safety signage and traffic-management personnel in the area.
