Tonight starting at 10 pm, Highway 17 (aka Pat Bay Highway) near Keating Cross Road in Central Saanich will be closed in both directions tonight, Wednesday August 7, 2024 as announced by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure in a news release today.
This will allow crews to safely complete work on the steel bridge girder placement across the highway as part of the Keating Cross Road Overpass project.
The highway will be closed between Tanner Road and Island View Road from 10 pm tonight August 7 to 6 am through to on Thursday morning August 8.
This marks the last of three closures to complete work on the girder placement.
Delays and detour:
Drivers can expect delays of up to 20 minutes.
During the closure, drivers will be redirected through a nearby detour along Central Saanich Road.
Previous closure was on July 29:
A similar overnight closure of Highway 17 for the Keating Cross Road Overpass Project was overnight July 29 into the morning of July 30.
Detour and delays:
This will present a detour for all motorists on the road, including those travelling to and from the Victoria International Airport and the BC Ferries Swartz Bay terminal.
Drivers can expect delays of as much as 20 minutes and are encouraged to choose alternative routes when possible. Vehicles with an overall width greater than 2.6 metres are not allowed on the detour and must use alternative routes.
People are asked to take extra care while travelling in the area, obey all safety signage and check DriveBC for the most up-to-date information.
