Westshore RCMP: home invasion in View Royal area Dec 2

In the wee hours of Saturday December 2 (approximately 2:45 a.m.), the West Shore RCMP responded to a report of a home invasion near the 1500-block of Middle Rd, Songhees Nation, within the View Royal area.

Police say in a news release today that they were on scene within minutes of receiving the call and secured the residence and neighborhood.

Officers learned that a male suspect had entered the victim’s home through the front door and discharged what may have been a firearm while inside the residence. The suspect then fled the scene. One occupant received injuries resulting from a brief physical altercation with the suspect.

“The area was searched extensively, however, police were unable to locate the suspect,” said Nancy Saggar, Media Relations Officer, West Shore RCMP in a news release today.

The suspect is described as:

• Male with dark skin;
• Dark pants;
• Bright white shoes;
• Hoodie.

On-going investigation:

This investigation is ongoing, police are asking residents living in the area to check their home surveillance cameras for the period between 2:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. on December 2, and, if you believe you have captured the suspect on camera to report it to police.

If you have information on this crime or think you know who the suspect may be, West Shore RCMP asks that people call them at 250-474-2264. “Do not approach the suspect as he may be armed and is considered dangerous.”

Police say in a release today that they do not believe the public is at risk, as this appears to have been a targeted and isolated crime.

Police are continuing this investigation and would like to inform the public that this incident is not believed to be related to the Dec 1 home invasion in Langford that was reported around 4:50 pm Friday night.
