UPDATE: As of 7:44 pm – power back on in the Metchosin area. Power still out (for 1,078 customers) in the Royal Bay / Ryder Hesjedal area of Colwood and across the street at The Beachlands construction site.
UPDATE: As of 7:35 pm, crews are on site and some restoration had been done (1,953 customers were without power, down from 3,054). But then something must’ve happened … the number went back up to 3,054. Weather continues with strong winds and heavy rain.
Trees down over BC Hydro lines has resulted in 3,054 west shore customers without power.
The outage occurred at 2:59 pm as wind gusts have occurred in the afternoon along with rain.

The impacted area includes Metchosin (on both sides of Metchosin Road), the Latoria area of Langford south, and parts of Colwood including the Royal Bay area and reaching the Esquimalt Lagoon area.
BC Hydro restoration crews have been assigned.
As of 7:45 pm the power was still out for about half of the impacted customers.
This is the only power outage on South Vancouver Island this evening.
Weather forecast:
Environment Canada’s forecast for the Victoria area is wind southwest at 40 km/h gusting to 60 km/h — gusting to 80 km/h near the Juan de Fuca Strait. Temperature low 9°C with a high of 11°C on Saturday (not much change).
